At an early 3:00 am this morning AEST time, the 8th September 2022 Apple held their Far Out Event. This event saw the announcement of several new products from Apple. These are the Apple Watch Series 8, the Apple Watch SE, the Apple Watch Ultra, the AirPod Pro and the iPhone 14 phones. The iPhone 14 series has four models: the iPhone 14, the iPhone 14 Plus, the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max. As was anticipated there is no iPhone 14 Mini, the iPhone 14 Plus fills the gap in the range left by the departure of the iPhone Mini but as its name suggests it is a larger phone. The Lightning connector is the charging connector with fast charging capability, there is MagSafe charging as well as Qi wireless charging capability for all iPhone 14 series phones. All four iPhone 14 models will use iOS 16, have Rated IP68 (maximum depth of 6 metres for up to 30 minutes) for splash, water and dust resistance. All four models are eSim capable and the US versions will not have a SIM tray. Australian versions will have a SIM card tray. There are some really nice new safety features such as the iPhone 14 range will come with crash detection which is a feature similar to fall detection, but crash detection will know if you have been involved in a car crash and will send a warning to emergency services. Another safety feature is Emergency SOS via Satellite. This is when antennas inside the iPhone 14 range connect to a satellite to inform people that you know that you are in distress. When connected and you have a clear view of the sky, the iPhone owner is able send messages for assistance via Apple’s system to send a text based message in 15 seconds. You will be able to use Find My to send your location via satellite. This potentially life saving feature will initially be available in the U.S. and Canada. Apple did not mention the availability of his for any other countries. Also, in the later aprt of 2022 Apple stated that Apple Fitness+ will be available for all iPhone users, even the people that do not have an Apple Watch. iPhone 14 And iPhone 14 PlusLet’s look at the non Pro iPhone 14 versions first: the iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Plus.
